About SHEILD

Social, Humanitarian, Economical Intervention for Local Development — a local, national humanitarian nongovernmental association.

Who we are

SHEILD is a Lebanese national nongovernmental organization established in 2010 by Lebanese activists in the humanitarian and recovery field.

It promotes economic development by supporting the livelihood and capacity building of marginalized community groups, and by offering protection and assistance to communities affected by war, armed conflict, natural disasters, and the lack of basic services — with particular attention to women and children.

The organization operates in harmony with the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence, and works with communities in Beirut, Tyre, Tebnin, Halba, Damascus, and South Lebanon.

SHEILD is a Lebanese national nongovernmental organization established by activists in the humanitarian and recovery field. Working across social, humanitarian, and economic dimensions, the association promotes local development and a path toward social justice. Its approach centers on supporting livelihoods, strengthening community capacity, and expanding access to protection and assistance for people and groups affected by war, armed conflict, natural disasters, and gaps in basic services, particularly within marginalized communities.

SHEILD’s work places particular attention on women, children, and other vulnerable populations while responding to emergencies and long-term needs across Lebanon. The organization combines relief interventions with development, education, training, and capacity-building initiatives that help communities become more resilient and self-reliant. Guided by neutrality, impartiality, and independence, SHEILD acts autonomously and maintains a clear position so that humanitarian and social interventions can reach affected populations impartially, including those in prisons and the judiciary and in areas shaped by conflict and displacement.
