Direct assistance
Immediate support to households and community groups whose access to food, health care, social care and protection has been disrupted by conflict and displacement.
Social, Humanitarian, Economical Intervention for Local Development
Relief for communities affected by war and by the absence of governmental health services, social care, economic assistance and protection.
SHEILD aims at bringing relief to the population in general and to those who suffered, and still suffer, from war as well as from the absence of governmental health services, social care, economic assistance and protection in particular.
In order to achieve its mission, the organization works through direct assistance and community-based interventions that enhance human rights, raise social awareness, and improve economic conditions for the most vulnerable and deprived communities, with particular attention to women and children.
Our approach is participatory: interventions are designed with local stakeholders, so that access to food, basic services and protection is strengthened close to the communities that need it, in Beirut, Tyre, Tebnin, Halba, Damascus and South Lebanon.
SHEILD operates as a Lebanese nongovernmental organization whose stated mission centers on social justice and relief for communities affected by war and by gaps in public services. Working across humanitarian, social, and economical dimensions, the organization focuses particularly on populations left vulnerable by the absence of governmental health services, social care, economic assistance, and protection. Its stated path to social justice is pursued through direct assistance and community-based intervention, with an emphasis on local development, capacity building, education, and livelihoods for marginalized groups including women and children in areas such as Tyre. The organization also maintains a position of neutrality, impartiality, and independence, acting autonomously in complex environments marked by armed conflicts and natural disasters.
The broader framework described on this page reflects a commitment to advance gender equality, strengthen vulnerable populations, and support communities through protection initiatives and emergency response. SHEILD's activities extend beyond immediate relief into longer-term development and social sectors, addressing the knock-on effects of wars, disasters, and displacement on families and local economies. Its published work includes emergency programmes, projects on prisons and the judiciary, publications, and ongoing interventions delivered in partnership with other actors and aligned with national and local priorities. Within this context, information sharing, educational and training offers, and accessible communication in several languages form part of how the organization explains its aims, raises awareness about ongoing crises, and connects with the wider public and donor community.
Three connected lines of work translate the mission into practice.
Immediate support to households and community groups whose access to food, health care, social care and protection has been disrupted by conflict and displacement.
Programs shaped with local stakeholders and municipal actors, combining livelihood support and capacity building with protection initiatives.
Work that strengthens human rights, social awareness and economic conditions for the most vulnerable and deprived, including women and children.
